“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV)
People often say to me, “I don’t have the patience to do that.” And I sometimes hear, “how do you put up with them?” Once I was even told how amazing my faith is. Many people do not understand where people get these things; longsuffering, temperance and faith. Everyone wishes he/she had them.
The whole world looks for joy, peace and love. You see it everywhere. Everyone wants to be loved, wants to be happy, wants peace …
Some look in the strangest places. They look to drugs for joy or look to people that can’t find it themselves. They look to wars to bring peace and to lust for love.
To interrupt this train of thought, I would like to clarify “Love”. True and real love is an unconditional acceptance. It is a choice; a feeling of joy simultaneously entangled with sorrow and pain. There is only one place to find these feelings; these temperaments and that is in God and His people.
You hear about these great Christians and how they seem to literally glow. What you see is power. The power of joy, peace and acceptance.
Let me interrupt again to clarify “Christian”. Many people who claim to be this are not. Even if they are going to heaven once they die, that does not make them Christians. The word Christian means “Christ-like” or like Christ. To be a Christian is to be perfect. No one is perfect but that does not mean no one is a Christian. It is through the blood of Jesus Christ that we can be made perfect in the sight of God. Only through accepting Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world can you make it to heaven.
Many believe that if you do “good enough”, if you do more good then bad in your life, you will go to heaven. Or they believe their next life will be better but neither is true. If you are on your way to heaven, then doing good will get you gold, precious stones and crowns. Otherwise doing good has no other purpose than making you feel better about yourself. There is no better reward for doing good, if heaven is not your home.
Once someone stated to me that he/she didn’t understand why God lets people that don’t believe in Him have lives that are so good. My reply was, “This world is the closest thing to heaven they will ever see.”
Many people say that life in this world is hell. Well, I will tell you – it is not. I have never been in hell and never will be but God did tell some of what hell is. Hell is eternal death, dying forever in darkness, in fire … alone. People wonder why would God let life be so hard on them. If you asked me, I would reply, “Because it is the closest thing to hell we’d ever know.”
God has had everything planned out since before time itself was made. We see a tangled mess. There is an example I wish to share:
A young boy was playing with his toys on the floor as his mother sat on the couch working on the cross-stitch. The boy looked at it and thought what a mess it was, so many threads of every color going every which way. He asked his mother why she was making something so tangled and ugly. She replied telling him to come look at it from her side. The boy looked and saw such a beautiful and perfect picture.
The dark threads in life are to make the light ones so much brighter. What we see is the underside of life as God weaves the top. Everyone has his/her dark threads and everyone has his/her light threads. Everyone’s life is a picture.
Through our freewill we get to choose how light or dark the full picture is. Will you choose to have a dark-shaded night scene or a flower filled mountain side?
We have a choice of whether or not to accept God and follow His perfect plan for us. Many people make plan after plan on just how life should be. How often do things not work out how you planned? To have the most joy in life, you have to let God write your plans. God has a piece of paper for your life that He wishes you to sign, it is still blank. Don’t try to fill it out. Just sign your name and let God set your plans.
Life will never be perfect, no matter how much you try. Humans sin, the flesh is evil. But through God we can have a life filled with peace and joy and love.
