Scripture tells us girls and women in 1 Peter 3:3-4, that our “… adornment should not be outward – arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on dresses – but the hidden Man of the heart, with the incorruptible ornament of a meek and peaceable spirit, which is of great value before Elohim.”
When we are saved and belong to our heavenly Father, we should be good examples to those around us. Yahweh wants His girls and women to dress modestly. The Hebrew root word for “modesty” comes from the word “humble”, and it means “hidden in its proper place”. We are to dress so that our body is hidden in its proper place. We must be careful not to show off the private parts of our bodies. If we do not dress decently, we can cause boys and men to sin because they will look at us and think impure thoughts.
The Father wants us to rightly represent Him and His Kingdom. Because our citizenship is in the heavens (Philippians 3:20a), we must guard against drawing the wrong kind of attention to ourselves. We are to behave at all times in a lady-like way, thus bringing honor not only to ourselves, but to the One that we represent.
