Doubting: Is It From Above? … by Rebecca Richards
May 1st, 2011There comes a time in everyone’s walk that we doubt what we think the Heavenly Father is telling us to do. Could doubting be from above? Well, there are scriptures that talk about “Doubting Thomas” (John 20:24-29), and then there are those that talk about trying the spirits (1John 4:1-6). My favorite though, for this question, is all the way back in Genesis 22:1-19 when Abraham was going to offer Isaac as Yahweh had told him to do. This was, in my opinion, the most opportune time for doubting. Did any occur? I am not saying that we shouldn’t ask a second or third time, just to make sure of course …
Sometimes, when we are given something to do by the Father that seems so contrary to our comfort zone, we tend to doubt it, and (in my case) push it to the back burner so to speak, for the time being. What happens when we put things “on the back burner” that came from Father Yahweh? We tend to forget it is there, and we end up not praying or meditating on it as we are supposed to. When we are being led to do something that is not in our comfort zone, then we set it aside and say that wasn’t from the Father. In some cases, this is true. In most, it is not.
We have to come out of our comfort zone in some areas of our lives. When we do the difficult, and somewhat out-of-our-character stuff, we will find that it is in Yahweh’s character. When we live the life He wants us to live, then we start taking on His character more and more as He grows in us and we grow toward Him. This means doing things that are in His character, over what we feel is our character.
Trust me, I know you are thinking; “But there are things I’m not comfortable doing” or “Someone else will do that”. Does this sound familiar? When we do the “hard for us stuff”, we find a blessing beyond our expectations.
There are times we feel that we should be doing more for the Kingdom of Yahweh. Some people have no problem jumping in headfirst and doing anything and everything they can for anyone possible. When we are so used to being the one in charge and doing all the time, when Father Yahweh says “wait”, we panic like someone sinking or drowning in quicksand. Waiting is one of the hardest things to do, but it is wonderful when it pays off. Sometimes, when we get used to things being a certain way, or we get used to taking the lead spot, or we have the answer … we can get puffed up and not realize it. When we are told to wait, we won’t, we can’t, it’s not right … We seem to forget that there are other people out there, that Father Yahweh is using and working with and cultivating just like us, or for us.
What am I trying to say, and am I getting it across? Doubting briefly while you try the spirits, or waiting for a confirmation, is acceptable to our Father (in my opinion). Continuing on before confirmation, or putting things on a back burner while we decide that it isn’t for us, is not (in my opinion). He does give us things to look for and questions to ask ourselves and Him, to help us do or not do what we are being shown.
My mom used to tell us (my siblings and myself) that there are three thoughts that go through our minds: the Heavenly Father’s … the devil’s … and our own. She said that we had to decide which one it is, and then only dwell on what lines up with the scriptures. If it does not line up with scripture, it is not from above.
Sometimes we are to say no, or nothing at all. Saying no is not a bad thing, and not saying anything at all can be a good thing. Remember, our speech is supposed to be, “… yea, yea; nay, nay: whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.” Matthew 5:37
As we are all walking “together” in this “water testing” time, can we keep in mind that we aren’t to doubt our Father above, in anything? He knows what is best for us, and how to build the character He wants for us. Proverbs 19:3 says; “The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against Yahweh. There are times we know exactly what the Father wants us to do or say, and we should just do it. If you need prayer in waiting on a confirmation, talk to someone close to you, who you know will pray with everything they have in them for you, and your answer. When the answer comes and you know it is from above – DON’T DOUBT IT, DO IT!
Father Yahweh will give you everything you have need of, to accomplish the task He has set before you. He is our Father and He wants what is best for us. There is an old hymn that says; “Trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Yasha, but to trust and obey.” Trust has no doubt. Do you trust Him? Then obey what, where, and when He tells you to do something.
This article has been something that I felt I was supposed to write. May Father Yahweh bless all those that read this article and this magazine.
