A Daughter Of My Father … by Koleesa Amundson
March 23rd, 2011For ye are all children of God by faith in Jesus Christ.
Galatians 3:26
What a blessing and what a privilege to be considered the children of God! It is a wonder- ful blessing and an amazing miracle that God should consider us His children! We all have two fathers; an earthly one and a Heavenly One. We always hear people saying how wonderful it is to be a child of our Heavenly Father. I want to ask you something; how often do we hear people say what a blessing it is to be a child of their earthly father? I also am guilty of this. It took the Lord some time to make me understand what a bless- ing it is to be a child of my earthly father! It wasn’t always easy. I think sometimes we get so caught up in comparisons. Why can’t my father be like that person’s father? How come my family doesn’t do it the same way their family does it? The Lord is in control. He gave you your father because that was the father he wanted you to have!
The Bible says, “Honor your father and mother.” But it doesn’t just stop there, “Which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” We are to honor our parents, not just obey them. According to Webster’s Dictionary, ‘honor’ means: ‘The esteem due or paid to worth; high estimation.’
How can we honor our earthly father? Definitely by the way we speak to him. Do we honor him by our words? Is what we say respectful to him? How about our tone of voice? The words we say may be respectful, but if our tone is not, the meaning of the words is lost.
We may not realize it, but we have a great opportunity to show the love of Christ through our relationship with our father. We are the Daughters of the Most High God, the King of Israel, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End! We need to be an example of this in every area of our lives. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glo- rify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
