Shining Stars: Tell us a little about yourself (name, age, where you live, family, interests, etc) …
Hannah: My name is Hannah. I’m 21 years old living at home with my parents and the 3 youngest of my 5 siblings (ages 25, 23, 9, 8 and 6) up here in the north country of Minnesota. I love living on a homesteading farm and enjoy spinning, knitting, skiing, snow and most farm chores.
Shining Stars: What is your testimony (how did you become born-again)?
Hannah: I grew up in a Christian church and felt that there had to be more than just saying Jesus was my Savior. Then about 5 years ago, we found our Hebrew roots through the dietary laws of Leviticus 11. Since then we have been studying Scripture and have had many wonderful family memories made on the feast days. Just this past summer my dad, mom and I were baptized. That was an awesome experience.
Shining Stars: What led you to stay at home?
Hannah: My ultimate goal (Yah willing) is to be a wife and mother some day. I see all the wonderful things that my Mom does for her family and want to be able to do them for my family in the future. Where better to learn those skills than at home? My parents have supported me right from the beginning and I know Yah will bless me for trying to honor Him.
Shining Stars: What are some ways that you help and serve your family?
Hannah: Oh, where to start? Because my family’s vision is to be as self-sustaining as possible, a lot of what I do revolves around farm work. I help plant, weed, harvest and preserve our garden. Caring for cows, chickens, turkeys, a dog, my rabbit and a few barn cats takes up most of my time. Cooking from scratch, dishes, laundry and general cleaning takes up my remaining time. Any spare time I have left is used to knit mittens, socks, slippers, hats, scarves and toys for my family.
Shining Stars: Are there any resources that have encouraged you in your daily life?
Hannah: A book by Jasmine Baucham (Joyfully At Home) has encouraged me very much. I’ve read it many times when I feel like I’m losing the battle as a stay-at-home-daughter. I also follow a few blogs authored by SAHD’s that live the same lifestyle that I do, for example: www.bairfootdays.blogspot.com
Shining Stars: Do you have a ministry? If so, please share about it.
Hannah: My mother and I just started a ministry with our church! We’re going to be teaching the women of our church how to be homemakers, sharing the skills we have learned over the past 10 years. Some of things we’re teaching about are: making cheese, herbals, buying in bulk, gardening, sewing, knitting, cooking from scratch, animal husbandry, etc.
Shining Stars: Do you have a home business? If so, please share about it.
Hannah: I don’t currently have a home business. I tried to start an Etsy shop but with my family’s lifestyle, I don’t have time to make things for it. I’m busy making things for my family. Maybe in the future when my little siblings are older, I will have time for it.
Shining Stars: What encouragement/advice/exhortation do you have to share?
Know that Yah has a plan for you: a plan that is just for you and not another plan will do. Trust Him with ALL your heart and ask Him what He wants for you to be doing. His ways are always better than anything we could ever dream up.
