Shining Stars: Tell us a little about yourself (name, age, where you live, family, interests, etc) …
Hannah: My name is Hannah. Most of all, I’m a sinner saved by grace. I’m 19 and I live with my family in North Carolina. There are 11 of us: Daddy and Mama, me, John Thomas (17), Bethany (15), Rebekah (14), Andrew (11), Nathan (9), Lydia (7), Philip (4) and Naomi (17 months). I love my family! There are many things that I enjoy … spending time family and friends, photography, cooking, shopping, reading and so on.
Shining Stars: What is your testimony (how did you become born-again)?
Hannah: I’ve been in church all my life and have been blessed to sit under the preaching of many great men of God. All that is good (and I’m thankful for it!), but it didn’t save me. Last November, God saved me — by grace, through faith. It’s the best thing that has ever happened to me! But where sin abounded, Grace did much more abound. (Romans 5:20)
Shining Stars: What led you to stay at home?
Hannah: There are several reasons I choose to stay at home. Practically speaking, it just makes sense. I can’t afford to live on my own at this point. Also, I believe that it’s where God wants me right now. I’m learning from my parents and I’m under their protection. I have chosen this; my dad hasn’t told me that I have to stay at home (though he recommends it) … ultimately it is my choice. And it is a blessing. And I’d be terribly lonely by myself anyway. 🙂
Shining Stars: What are some ways that you help and serve your family?
Hannah: One of the ways that I (along with my sisters) help out is by cooking our meals. Another thing is that I go each week and get the groceries. They’re things that I enjoy doing while at the same time they’re blessing my family.
Shining Stars: Are there any resources that have encouraged you in your daily life?
Hannah: Two books that have helped me are Joyfully at Home by Jasmine Baucham and Every Young Woman’s Battle by Shannon Ethridge. (I’d suggest the latter for girls 15 and older.) Do Hard Things by the Harris brothers is an encouraging read as well. I really enjoy Fresh Modesty – Olivia has a beautiful sense of style (much like mine) while maintaining modesty. And Shining Stars Magazine is great! 🙂
Shining Stars: Do you have a ministry? If so, please share about it.
Hannah: Not specifically, but I know from personal experience that the way you live your life is your greatest ministry. There are many people who have influenced me and I strive to be like them.
Shining Stars: Do you have a home business? If so, please share about it.
Hannah: Not at this time.
Shining Stars: What encouragement/advice/exhortation do you have to share?
Hannah: A scripture that has really blessed me lately is Isaiah 43:1-3. But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour… I’m so glad that I’m His!!
