A couple months ago we did a book giveaway for Alicia. Now she will share about some of her experiences as a daughter at home!
Shining Stars: Tell us a little about yourself (name, age, where you live, family, interests, etc) …
Alicia: Hello! My name is Alicia A. Willis, and I am a twenty-two year old homeschool graduate and Christian Historical-Fiction author. When not writing or doing historical research for my books, I enjoy being a church pianist, teaching music and playing volleyball. I am also getting my three-year Faith Bible Institute degree in Biblical history and theology. Lord willing, I will graduate in the spring of 2015.
Shining Stars: What is your testimony (how did you become born-again)?
Alicia: I was saved as a child of five, by accepting Jesus into my heart and His free gift of forgiveness. I was baptized two years later, when I was old enough to understand the full significance of making a public testimony. Since then, I have been an active church worker.
Shining Stars: What led you to stay at home?
Alicia: I am the oldest of eight children. I intend on remaining at home to help with the family until I am married. That is my primary desire – to be a wife and mother someday.
Shining Stars: What are some ways that you help and serve your family?
Alicia: I help homeschool, teach music to the younger ones, and assist in the cooking, cleaning, etc. I also chaperone my younger sister, who is currently in a relationship with a young man. As you can imagine, the latter is a rather fun way of assisting my family.
Shining Stars: Are there any resources that have encouraged you in your daily life?
Alicia: My FBI instructor, Pastor John Yates, has been a tremendous blessing in my life. I have learned so much by being enrolled as an FBI student. Not only do I understand the history behind and the theologies within the Bible so much better but I always come away from class strengthened and encouraged.
Shining Stars: Do you have a ministry? If so, please share about it.
Alicia: I am a church pianist and vocalist. I also accompany a violin quartet entitled Hymns For Him, which performs at local nursing homes and in the public schools. Being an author, I also mentor budding young writers. And, Lord willing, I will be taking over a Sunday school class in our church in the next few months. I am eager to start sharing the love of God with children from broken homes who might never hear the gospel otherwise.
Shining Stars: Do you have a home business? If so, please share about it.
Alicia: In a way, my work as an author can be considered a home business. I am currently the author of five historical-fiction titles, two of which are nationwide contest finalists. I spend much time laboring over my manuscripts, speaking with my consultants and doing the necessary book marketing. I also design websites, mentor young writers and do promotions for fellow authors, all of which takes place at home. I am truly blessed to be able to fulfill God’s calling in the comfort of my own home!
Shining Stars: What encouragement/advice/exhortation do you have to share?
Alicia: Never underestimate God! He has a special calling for you wherever you are. Don’t be afraid to dive into whatever He has called you to do and watch Him work His amazing grace and power. I’ll leave you with the little slogan I insert into my newsletters: Each of us has a little corner. Go out there and fill it for Christ!
