Have you ever had someone say something to you and think an unkind thought about that person? Have you ever rolled your eyes or sighed heavily when your Mom or Dad asked you to do something, or verbally chastised you? Has an older person begun to tell a story that you have heard many times before and think to yourself, “Oh no! Not that story again!”
A few months ago the Holy Spirit quickened my spirit when my husband was reminding me to do something and I thought to myself, “I know! I know! You don’t need to remind me!”. The Holy Spirit told me that I had been disrespectful, even though it wasn’t outright. I immediately repented and asked forgiveness.
I have thought on that incident several times since then and began to wonder how many times in the past I had been disrespectful to others in my thoughts. Yahshua said if a man even looks at a woman to lust after her, he has committed adultery. Many times the Father’s Words will have double meanings and when this verse came to my mind after the incident of my disrespectful thought, I saw that the verse wasn’t only relegated to men looking at women, but was also a warning for us all to guard our thoughts.
Because the Holy Spirit “slapped my wrist”, I was suddenly aware that we can be just as disrespectful in our thoughts as we can by expressing it openly. Philippians 4:7 tells us that it is the peace of our heavenly Father that guards our hearts and minds through His Son, Yahshua. Let that peace rule and reign in your thoughts.
