It is time for another interview! What a blessing it is to be encouraged by young ladies all over the country, hearing how they are serving the Father in their homes.

Shining Stars: Tell us a little about yourself (name, age, where you live, family, interests, etc) …

KallyLyn: My name is KallyLyn. I am in my late teens, and I live with my family in the Ozark Mountains. I graduated from home school in 2010. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers, all younger than me. We work a small farm which we bought in the spring. Before that, my Dad had a job that took him all over the country and we moved around a lot because of it. It was really neat to be able to see many of the “important places” involved in the history of our country.

The study of Scripture is one of my biggest passions. I’m not great with words verbally, but I write a lot. After my responsibilities have been accomplished, I spend much of my time writing or typing something that I had been thinking about that day. I also greatly enjoy photography. I have done portraits, but mostly I just photograph the details that are easily missed, whether my subjects are architecture, animals, flowers, or people. Now that I have discovered the macro settings on my camera, I have spent much of my photo time using them. I enjoy many other things, or at least am capable of doing them if I have to, but scripture and photography are my absolute favorite interests.

Shining Stars: What is your testimony (how did you become born-again)?

KallyLyn: My first remembrance of “going to church” was when I was three. I really don’t ever remember not being a believer, but when I was seven my Dad took me into what at that time was our church’s sanctuary. There he explained to me the necessity of accepting the blood of Messiah personally. It wasn’t just something we did on Sunday; it had to begin on a personal level first. After we had our little discussion Dad helped me to pray and I was born-again!

About 8 years ago we began to see the difference between what we were being taught from the pulpit and what Scripture actually said. Since then we have been on a journey attempting to follow the Father rather than man. We believe that the Father’s “law” has not been done away with, as Yahshua (what we believe is Jesus’ actual Hebrew name) said in Matthew 5:18-19, “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Because of this belief, we strive to obey the commands given by YHWH the Father in Genesis to Deuteronomy. Like I said, we try to follow YHWH alone. We try not to add or take away from His Word as He said in Deuteronomy 12:32, “What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.”

Shining Stars: What led you to stay at home?

KallyLyn: Honestly, one of the biggest reasons leading me to stay home was the thought of a tedious life at a restaurant, desk job or college, doing what someone else wanted me to do without getting any real profit out of it myself. Also, Scripture says that a woman’s purpose is to be a help meet to her husband (Gen. 2:18). If I am to do this, then I need to learn to be capable of being a good wife and help meet. Currently, I train for my possible future by helping my parents. I help Mom around the house, which helps her to accomplish her task of being my Dad’s help meet. But I also help Dad around the farm with whatever needs doing during the day.

Shining Stars: What are some ways that you help and serve your family?

KallyLyn: I have tended to be the family handyman-girl, both inside and outside the house. Dad taught me to do a little bit of everything while I helped him with stuff, so that we could manage while he was gone. Between Mom and I, we were able to do repairs around the house, keep the van running, and much of whatever else was needed. What we couldn’t do usually waited until Dad got home. Now, I continue to help with odd-jobs and things around the farm that my younger brothers aren’t quite tall or strong enough to help with yet. I don’t really have official responsibilities or jurisdictions, like I’ve heard of other people doing. I just do whatever needs doing. I help to clean house, keep the floors swept, dishes done, etc. The laundry had been my specific task at one point. I have sewn clothes for my siblings when Mom didn’t have time to complete them. Over the next couple of months I will be helping my Dad split wood for the winter, for us as well as for a few other people- we’ll all be helping with that. Like I said, I just do whatever needs doing.

Shining Stars: Are there any resources that have encouraged you in your daily life?

KallyLyn: Scripture is my main resource- my go-to book. It ought to be everybody’s first resource, in my opinion. Some other books that I’ve read which I have found encouraging would probably be “Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends” by Sarah, Stephen, and Grace Mally; and “Daughters of Destiny” by Noelle Wheeler. I also enjoyed “The Return of the Daughters”, a video made by the Botkin family.

Shining Stars: Do you have a ministry? If so, please share about it.

KallyLyn: My life example is my ministry. I believe that all of our lives are a ministry, to our siblings, parents, and whomever we meet. No, at the moment I don’t teach a girls group, I don’t operate a magazine, I don’t operate a non-profit charity, but I still have a ministry that no one can ever change or take away. It is up to me whether I have a good ministry or not, but it is a ministry nonetheless. I blog at www.brightlight08.blogspot.com. Here I share my perspective on Scripture, current events, and some of my photography. One of the reasons that I started this weblog is to try to encourage others in their walk as well as to share my thoughts. It was intended to be a thought-provoking place for others to visit. I think that, at least as far as thought-provoking is concerned, I have been successful in my goal.

Shining Stars: Do you have a home business? If so, please share about it.

KallyLyn: I do not have a home business at the moment, other than trying to help get this farm up and going. Our laying hens haven’t begun to give eggs yet, but when they do, it is possible we will sell the eggs. Beginning a home business is something that I would like to do in the near future. I’ve been looking into some things, but at the moment I have other priorities. We’ll just have to wait and see what the Father has in store.

Shining Stars: What encouragement/advice/exhortation do you have to share?

KallyLyn: Look to the Father to be your teacher and guide. Don’t take man’s word for it- study Scripture for yourself. There’s so much more there than what you’ll be told about. It isn’t easy to be different from the world. It’s certainly not easy to be different from the “different” folk. But, as Augustine put it, “Right is right even if no one is doing it; wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it.” Swimming upstream is often difficult, but is often the most rewarding course in the end. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven,” as it is written in Matthew 5:16.
