I can still remember the excitement I felt as I read His Chosen Bride for the first time. My mother had ordered it along with a number of other homeschooling books from Timberdoodle, and I was delighted.
The author, Jennifer Lamp, does an excellent job as she pairs Isaiah 54 with Proverbs 31. While she implies that being a wife and mother is the highest calling a woman can have, she encourages unmarried women to view their Maker as their husband. She goes through Proverbs 31 verse by verse, and explores the different ways that we can fulfill this passage while unmarried.
I think that part of my attraction to this book, is the semi-Victorian feminine design and layout, complete with pink and purple, flowers, and old-fashioned photos and artwork. It is one of my most-treasured books, not just because of the design, but because of all the words of encouragement and exhortation that can be found in it!
A couple of years back, I had a pleasant surprise when a lady named Tricia emailed me to request a subscription to Shining Stars. I noticed that the website on her email signature, was the website for a business that Jennifer Lamp had started. I asked her about it, and found out that their family had been able to “adopt” the business from Jennifer.
When I decided to start the book reviews and giveaways here on the site, His Chosen Bride immediately came to mind. However, I had a difficult time finding a place to purchase it, and when I did find a site that carried it, I was disappointed at how expensive it was! Hannah, I had forgotten about this book… I used to have it, and really enjoyed it. I believe I gave it away at a campground while we were traveling to Alaska… unless it is still packed away in a tote somewhere (from when I got married).
However, I haven’t seen it for a LONG time…
