There are some books that I wish I could give to every girl I know! I love to read, but there are some books that have really spoken to me. Since the goal of Shining Stars is to encourage ladies in femininity and biblical womanhood, I would like to begin hosting giveaways of books that do just that. My hope is to do one giveaway a month, but that will depend on the available finances.

This book was written several hundred years ago, and some sources say that the author is Christoph von Schmid, while others say that the author is unknown! Either way, this is an excellent book!

The story opens with a description of the two main characters; James, and his young daughter Mary. James is a gardener for a nobleman in a European country, and he uses simple agricultural truths to teach his daughter important life lessons. There are so many profound insights, that when I was reading it recently, I thought about copying off some of the sentences and paragraphs to read over and over again.

But this book isn’t just about flowers and garden lessons. Life isn’t always simple and pleasant, and sweet-smelling roses grow on thorns. Those who seek to live their lives righteously and peaceably, are the special target of the enemy, who wanders about like a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour. It is often through weaknesses in others, that he attacks us. Things may sometimes seem as if they couldn’t get any worse, and there may be times when we have been wronged, and we wonder if the truth will ever come to light.

There is no need to fret … weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning. All things work together for the good of them that love Him and are called according to His purpose. As long as we are in His Will, we can trust Him with the details.

The Basket Of Flowers is a wonderful example of this truth. I will be giving away one copy of this book … if you would like to join, please leave a comment on this post (entry rules are below). Multiple family members are allowed to enter, and international readers are also welcome to join! If you do not win the book, and would like to read it, you can find it someplace like Amazon or eBay, and also at Lamplighter Publishing, although they are sometimes pricey! I enjoy Lamplighter’s book immensely, but I don’t always enjoy the prices, so I usually try to check out their scratch and dent section, as the books there are usually in fine shape.
